<text>The THATCamp program has offered low-cost digital methods training to hundreds of humanities scholars. Largely as a result of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation’s 2010-2012 investment of $260,000, THATCamp has succeeded at providing digital humanities training at scale to the scholarly community, serving more than 4000 participants since its inception in 2008. We are asking for two further and final years of funding to ensure that THATCamp survives and flourishes for many years to come. With Mellon’s help, we will support at least thirty more THATCamps, establish a volunteer THATCamp Coordinating Council to assume the responsibilities of the THATCamp Coordinator, review and expand the documentation available for THATCamp organizers and participants, add community strengthening social networking features to the THATCamp website, and hold an event called THATCamp Leadership for the purpose of obtaining support for the THATCamp model from university administrators and scholarly association heads.</text>

<text>Large collecting institutions and their foundation backers have made good progress in recent years digitizing and making collections available online. Private corporations such as Thompson and Google have also done extensive work in this area. As impressive as these large-scale efforts are, materials found in large archives represent just a fraction of the unique archival materials in institutional holdings. Far greater—in numbers and even richness—are the combined collections found in small museums, libraries, archives, and historical societies around the world.
To fund each of these institutions individually to mount their collections online is not feasible. he answer is to provide a low-barrier, low-cost, standards-based means for local institutions and individuals to mount their own online collections and a similarly low-barrier means for them to voluntarily share those materials for central preservation and discovery. In partnership with the Internet Archive, the Center for History and New Media aims to meet this remaining challenge by networking the thousands of local websites using Omeka and aggregating their contents into a single, permanent, open access repository: Omeka Commons.</text>

<text>Creating a More Perfect Community is a Alexandria City Public Schools Teaching American History project designed in partnership with the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University to increase teachers' and students' knowledge of traditional American history and ability to analyze primary sources and think historically.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, TAH grants developed, documented, evaluated, and disseminated innovative and cohesive models of professional development. By helping teachers to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of U.S. history as a separate subject matter within the core curriculum, these programs were designed to improve instruction and raise student achievement. Grants were awarded from 2001 to 2010.</text>

<text>Peopling the American Past is a Teaching American History project designed in partnership with the Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Frederick, Manassas City, Orange, and Winchester Public Schools and the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University to increase teachers' and students' knowledge of traditional American history and ability to analyze primary sources and think historically.

<text>Conflict and Consensus: Key Moments in U.S. History is a Montgomery County Public Schools Teaching American History project designed in partnership with the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University to increase teachers' and students' knowledge of traditional American history and ability to analyze primary sources and think historically.

<text>Defining US: The American Experience is a Fairfax County Public Schools Teaching American History project designed in partnership with the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University to increase teachers' and students' knowledge of traditional American history and ability to analyze primary sources and think historically.
